OnePlus 8 Pro’s camera specs leaks; will have two 48MP cameras

The OnePlus 8 Pro’s launch draws closer with each passing day, and while we wait for an official confirmation, leaks are pouring in that reveal key details about the upcoming phone.

If you are curious about the camera configuration of the OnePlus 8 Pro, you don’t have to wait till launch day as the teenage leaker, Ishan Agarwal (@ishanagarwal24), has shared the specifications.

According to the leaker who has partnered with the Indian blog, PriceBaba, the OnePlus 8 Pro will have a 48MP primary camera which is a Sony IMX689 sensor with F1.78 aperture size. This is the same sensor used by the OPPO Find X2 Pro.

The phone will also have a second 48MP camera but this is the Sony IMX586 sensor. This second camera is the ultrawide angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 120° field of view. The third camera is an 8MP telephoto camera with an f/2.4 aperture and 3x optical zoom. The OnePlus 8 Pro will also be capable of 30x digital zoom. The fourth camera sensor is a 5MP color filter.

The leaker mentioned some software features coming to the phone such as Night Portrait Mode, improved OIS and EIS, cinematic effects and a feature called “3-HDR”.

The OnePlus 8 Pro will make it to DXOMark’s list and should be among the top 5 devices but it remains to be seen how long it will retain its spot before being pushed out of the top 10 list.

Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro Get Significant Camera Update

Xiaomi’s 2020 flagships —Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro— just received a significant upgrade (via Gizchina) to its cameras. Mi 10 Pro, in particular, was the top-ranked phone on DxOMark, only to be bested by the Oppo Find X2 Pro earlier this month. After this update, there is a high likelihood of the phone taking back its crown. Let’s take a look at what the upgrade has in store for us:

Super video stabilization upgrade

Super Stabilizer Plus

Larger format ratio

Better anti-shake effect

Normal video shooting support zoom

Supports smooth zoom

Support Hitchcock shooting

Adjustable parameters for professional mode recording video

Adjust video recording effects at any time

Adjustable white balance, focus parameters, shutter time, ISO, EV parameters

8K video movie format

8K video recording, textured movie format

Lossless image compression

Easily save 50%+ space

Mi clip – new

Intelligently analyze video clips and automatically match cool transition music

Support manual adjustment of subtitles, multiples, titles, and trailers

VLOG blockbuster, one-click can now create a film

Because the changelog is a direct translation, some of the minor details may have been lost in the process. Nonetheless, it is fairly easy to get a gist of what’s in store for Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro owners. One of the more interesting additions of this update is support for the Hitchcock Style shooting. It involves dividing action into a series of close-ups which are then shown in succession. You can also shoot 8K video at length, instead of in a few minute bursts. This is a highly-requested feature that will reportedly be a part of Android 11.

As you can see, most of these upgrades are centered around the videography features of the Mi 8 Pro. The phone’s Penta-camera setup is quite capable of shooting crystal clear footage, as demonstrated by the video here. Xiaomi says that the update is rolling out now and will be available to users in the coming weeks.

Galaxy S20 battery test shows the impact of 120Hz display, Exynos processor

The Galaxy S20 series has been on the market for a few weeks now and, as we published in our full review, the battery life is pretty good even with the 120Hz refresh rate enabled! Now, the folks at Anandtech have published an extensive test to show just how much of an impact 120Hz has on a Galaxy S20’s battery, as well as showing how Exynos differs.

Back before the public S20 launch, a battery test on the Galaxy S20 Ultra revealed that enabling 120Hz had an impact of nearly 3 hours of use time depleted from the device. In this latest test, we’re getting even more insight into how Samsung’s battery life is altered based on the refresh rate.

Using a Snapdragon 865 variant of the Galaxy S20 Ultra on the “High Performance” mode, this web browsing test managed 13.04 hours from the device before it kicked the bucket. When turning on 120Hz, that number dropped to 10.02 hours, just like the previous test discovered.

What’s very interesting is that using an Exynos-powered Galaxy S20 Ultra, the battery results absolutely plummet down to just 7.38 hours!

Interestingly too, there’s less consistency with the Exynos processor. On a Galaxy S20+ using Exynos, the battery test pulls 9.06 hours in 60Hz mode, but 7.28 hours in 120Hz mode. It’s a little odd that the extra 500 mAh in the S20 Ultra doesn’t offer more than 0.10 hours compared to the S20+. No wonder fans are petitioning Samsung to stop using those chips.

ONEPLUS 8 PRO FIRST LIVE IMAGES LEAKED ONLINE SPORTING PUNCH-HOLE DESIGN

OnePlus is likely to launch the OnePlus 8-series in April next month. And while we are still some time away from the company unveiling its next flagship devices, including the OnePlus 8 Pro. There is nothing stopping the recurrence of leaks of the upcoming smartphones.

Now, a new set of live photos have been spotted online. The images showcase what the OnePlus 8 Pro is likely to look like. These leaked photos show the back and front of the smartphone. It is worth noting that the images spotted also coincides with the previous leak renders of the OnePlus 8 Pro.

The alleged photo of the OnePlus 8 Pro suggests that the smartphone could feature a slight chin at the bottom and minimal bezels on the top and other sides. One can also notice a punch-hole camera on the top-left corner of the phone, housing a selfie camera. The front camera is also placed in a way that they merge with the notification bar at the top.

At the back is a camera module that looks similar to the OnePlus 7T or OnePlus 7T Pro device. However, it also shows an extra sensor on the left side of the setup, which is likely the 3D ToF depth camera. Its use will probably have a similar approach as Huawei phones, with usage in Portrait Mode photos and AR depth mapping. The image also confirms that OnePlus will continue with a curved screen display design this year.

ONEPLUS 8 PRO EXPECTED FEATURES

Based on what has leaked so far, the OnePlus 8 Pro is likely to feature a 6.65-inch AMOLED QHD+ Display with a whopping 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the new OnePlus device will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC with up to 12GB of RAM. The smartphone might also incorporate a 4,500 mAh battery with support for 50W fast charging.

For photography, the smartphone will come with a quad-camera setup at the back. As per leaks, the setup will include a newer Sony IMX 686 primary sensor. Paired with an ultra-wide-angle lens, a telephoto sensor, and a ToF camera. It will be interesting to see if OnePlus adds much-requested features like wireless charging and IP certification this time.

Here’s everything we know about the Google Pixel 4a so far

Google’s next mid-range Pixel entry is right around the corner, and plenty of rumors and leaks have already made their way out. We have a pretty good idea of what it looks like, we can assume some of the specifications using trends from last year, and we think we might know what it will cost. Here’s everything that’s been rumored so far about the forthcoming Google Pixel 4a.

Design and device features

The first thing we know for certain at this point is what the device is going to look like. Thanks to a leak from the ever-reliable OnLeaks, we know that the Pixel 4a is going to carry some very familiar external design flourishes. In many ways, this mid-ranger is a bit of a mix between last year’s Pixel 3a and the Pixel 4 — and there are practical reasons why this is the case.

As you can see above, the phone is going to have a camera bump that is very similar to the one on the standard Pixel 4. But there are differences too — the device is also going to ship with a rear fingerprint sensor and a 3.5mm headphone jack, both of which were skipped by the Mountain View company on last year’s flagship. There’s also the usual USB-C port and bottom-facing speakers.

Pixel 4a specs rumors

What about the specifications? We don’t know much about the internals yet, but we can make some strong assumptions based on previous trends with flagship Pixel and mid-range Pixel devices. Expect the same or similar camera quality, a larger, longer-lasting battery, and a mid-range Snapdragon processor.

As for the display, OnLeaks suggests that the smaller model will come in somewhere between 5.7 and 5.8-inches diagonally. And as for its dimensions, the standard Pixel 4a is going to measure 144.2 x 69.5 x 8.2mm. There have yet to be reliable leaks for the larger Pixel 4a XL — if it even exists.

Camera

As for the camera specifically, the renders provided by OnLeaks suggest strongly that the Pixel 4a is going to be shipping with just two camera sensors — one on the front, and one on the back. That back camera window is also going to house what is apparently the flash and likely a microphone, too.

We don’t know anything about how the Pixel 4a performs camera-wise, but if there’s anything we learned last year, Google’s messaging with this device is likely to be something along the lines of “get all the camera prowess of the flagship at half the price!” Will we? That’s yet to be seen.

Colors

We don’t know what the physical color options will be for the Pixel 4a, but we can assume there will be three if last year’s trend continues. Last year, there were the usual white and black models, but Google decided to throw in the “Purple-ish” model as the curveball (and best model, if you’re asking me). One sketchy rumor suggested that this year’s third color might be a blue hue of some sort.

Pixel 4a and 4a XL pricing rumors

Pixel 4a pricing is another thing that hasn’t been rumored much, but we did get word — also mentioned during episode 79 of the Alphabet Scoop podcast — that the larger Pixel 4a XL model might be slightly more expensive than it was last year. Our sources suggested $400 and $500 price points for the smaller Pixel 4a and 4a XL, respectively. That’s just a rumor, though. Pricing likely hasn’t been finalized yet.

Release date and availability

Another thing we can say with near-certainty is that the Google Pixel 4a is going to make its official appearance at Google I/O 2020. That is the same event where Google announced the Pixel 3a, and we’ve been told via rumor — as we mentioned during an episode of the Alphabet Scoop podcast — that this is around the time we should expect the mid-range 4a to materialize.

Google I/O 2020 marks a halfway point in the annual Google Pixel release cycle, and it’s one of the only other opportunities throughout the year where Google has significant press hands on deck for a significant hardware launch. Some have suggested that the company chooses this timeframe for the mid-range launch as to not over-shadow (or under-shadow?) the flagship Pixel release.

New Huawei P40 render reveals dual selfie cameras in a Samsung-style hole-punch

The release of the Huawei P40 shouldn’t be too far away, and as such, it’s time for the leaks to get into full swing. Back in December, we got a vague look at what the new device may look like, but the dark render kept much of the phone hidden. Now, thanks to 91 Mobile, we may be looking at the P40 in all its glory.

The front of the device is simple, with almost no bezels whatsoever. Huawei has dropped the notch for a dual camera cutout, something lovers of symmetry won’t be happy about. This cutout bears a striking resemblance to the Galaxy S10 5G. The 5G version of Samsung’s last flagship featured a ToF sensor between the two selfie lenses, so the hole punch was significantly wider than that of the S10+. This is purely conjecture on my part, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Huawei has squeezed their face unlock tech into that cutout, making it wider..

The rear of the device looks familiar, indeed. The camera lenses are housed in a square camera bump like the Pixel 4, 2019 iPhones, and upcoming Galaxy S20. Huawei has kept all three sensors in a vertical strip that lines up with the Huawei logo further down. We don’t have any new information about the P40 Pro at this time, but based on previous Pro models, you should expect to find another camera on the back.

We can’t be sure if this is an official render of the phone or another CAD mockup, but either way, this gives us our best look at the P40 yet. The P40 and P40 Pro are expected to launch at Huawei’s Paris launch event in March.

REDMI K30 PRO TO USE A SNAPDRAGON 865 SOC + 120HZ SCREEN

On December 10, Redmi held the Redmi K30 series new product launch conference in Beijing. At this event, the company unveiled the Redmi K30 4G and 5G versions. However, the more powerful Redmi K30 Pro did not debut. Fortunately, the company said that the device will arrive in March this year. Now, there is current information that gives us a clue on what to expect from the Redmi K30 Pro.

REDMI K30 PRO – WHAT WE KNOW

The Redmi K30 Pro model will be basically the same as the Redmi K30 5G in terms of appearance and design. There will not be many changes and it may still use the dual-punch hole OLED display panel. The vertically-aligned quad-camera system on the rear of the K30 should also transfer over to the K30 Pro, including the circular mirror design surrounding it. This smartphone will come with a full-screen design, refresh rate up to 120Hz, and the resolution is FHD+.

As for other aspects, according to the previous information, this phone will arrive in March this year. The configuration includes the top-level Snapdragon 865 flagship chip with X55 baseband. With this configuration, it supports dual-mode 5G networks. In addition, Lu Weibing, the president of Xiaomi Group China and the general manager of the Redmi brand, spoke at the MediaTek 1000L chip launch. According to some media speculation, the K30 Pro may also be equipped with this MediaTek 1000L chip. There is no verification for this report.

One of the expectations for the Redmi K30 Pro is that it will come with a low price tag. However, this need means that this device cant get certain features. For instance, if it will use an OLED panel, we do not expect this device to also have a 120Hz display refresh rate. However, it’s totally possible the K30 Pro will join the OnePlus 8 in offering an OLED panel with a 120Hz display refresh rate.

HUAWEI P30 LITE NEW EDITION GOES OFFICIAL WITH INCREMENTAL CHANGES

Huawei’s situation is slightly complicated. While the company is going pretty well on its domestic market in China, the ban imposed by the US government has affected the sales in Western countries. The company isn’t allowed to certify new devices due to the sanctions imposed by Trump’s administration. However, it has been working hard to stay fresh in the mind of non-Chinese customers. One of the solutions consists in re-badging current smartphones. The company is bringing back some smartphones with little incremental changes to the hardware. That’s exactly what is happening with the newly announced Huawei P30 Lite New Edition.

The Huawei P30 Lite New Edition is essentially the same smartphone from a year ago. However, it comes with extra storage and memory. The new variant has up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB of Internal Storage. The last year’s model in counterpart has up to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of Storage. Despite these incremental changes, everything else remains the same – design, camera configuration SoC, design, and battery are exactly similar to the vanilla edition.

It’s a curious, but interesting way to keep its name on the headlines. Therefore, the company can re-release all of its 2019 smartphones without having to obtain new licenses for Google Services. It’s not the best of solutions we all know, and the company won’t be able to keep it for much longer. Hopefully, talks between the US and the Chinese government will advance enough to benefit Huawei. Only then, the company will return to this game with full power.

Real-world photos confirm Samsung’s next flagship phone is called the Galaxy S20

There will be no Samsung Galaxy S11. Instead, Samsung is jumping ahead to the S20. Rumors had been swirling about the branding change in recent weeks, and today XDA Developers published the first real-world shots of the Galaxy S20 Plus.

The phone’s startup screen confirms the new name; maybe Samsung is naming by year now. And we also see that the front of the device has a center hole-punch cutout that’s similar to the selfie shooter from the Galaxy Note 10. Samsung has significantly toned down the curved sides of the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus, with XDA’s source saying that the S20 Plus feels largely flat in hand.

On the back, we get a look at Samsung’s large camera array for the S20 Plus, which is rumored to contain a regular wide lens, an ultra-wide, portrait, and a macro lens as the new, fourth option. On back is also one of the more optimistic, hopeful confidentiality stickers I’ve ever seen: it actually just flat out says “do not leak info.” So much for that.

Samsung will unveil an entire line of Galaxy S20 devices at its Unpacked event on February 11th, including multiple screen sizes and some models with 5G connectivity. The company’s next foldable phone, perhaps called the Galaxy Bloom, is also expected to debut next month.

Xiaomi Mi 10 5G and Mi 10 Pro spilled in one major leak

The next major 5G smartphone coming to market was leaked this afternoon in the form of the Xiaomi Mi 10 5G. This is one of two devices in the family – the other has “Pro” in its name. The only major difference between the standard and the Pro versions of this smartphone appears to be a different array of cameras on its back, headed by a gloriously absurd 108-megapixel primary camera.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro likely has the same 108MP camera on its back as the Xiaomi Mi Note 10. The Mi Note 10 Pro, in turn, worked with the same 108MP camera as the Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro. This has all been foretold by the leaks! This newest Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro likely has a 108MP camera plus: 12 MP (f/2.2) + 8 MP (f/2.4) + 2 MP (f/2.4).

That’d make it very similar to the Xiaomi Mi 10 5G (non-Pro) whose most recent leak suggested the following camera array on its back: 64 MP (f/1.8) + 12 MP (f/2.2) + 8 MP (f/2.4) + 2 MP (f/2.4). The back is said to have a dual-LED flash as well.

NOTE: The imagery above and below comes from Ben Geskin, based on rumors. This is not an official render or photo.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 is rumored to have a 6.57-inch Super AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution. This display will likely have 90Hz support – that’s 90 frames per second in apps that support said speed, and the basic OS. This display has two punch-holes for two cameras – 32MP + 8MP. This device will probably have a 4,500mAh battery and fast-charge support: 40W wired fast charging and 30W wireless fast charging.

Rumors suggest you’ll be able to work with 10W reverse wireless charging – that means putting your other wireless charging-capable smartphone back-to-back transfers battery from the Xiaomi Mi 10 to the other phone – neat!

The Xiaomi Mi 10 5G is rumored to roll with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 (Octa-core, 2.84GHz) with the ability to connect to 5G. According to a leaked set of specs over at CECT Shop, it looks like this device will have 5G bands as such: “5G/NR 2500/3500/4700MHz (N41/N78/N79).”

NOTE: Both the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro will likely have the same processor from Qualcomm, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. Because of this, they’ll have 5G connectivity. There won’t likely be any separate edition for 5G, nor 5G in the name of either phone – it’ll just be implied.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro was leaked in three configurations, including 8GB of RAM + 128GB, 8GB RAM + 256GB, and 12GB RAM + 256GB. The least of these was tipped to start at around 3,100 Yuan, which is around $445 USD when converted with today’s standard exchange rates.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro was leaked with three configurations: 12GB of RAM + 128GB, 12GB of RAM + 256GB, and 12GB of RAM + 512GB. These variants were tipped to have prices at 3,799 Yuan ($550), 4,099 Yuan ($585), and 4,499 Yuan ($645) respectively.

It’s expected that Xiaomi will reveal the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro at the same time in an event at MWC 2020. MWC 2020 takes place from February 24 to February 27 – so this event could take place as early as the 22nd, and probably no later than the 25th.
